Yes. Lab-grown ruby is genuine corundum — chemically, optically, and structurally identical to mined ruby, with the same chromium red and the same Mohs 9 hardness. A gemological report identifies both as ruby and notes only growth origin. The engagement is no less real for the stone being grown; what changes is the price of top color, which lab growth makes honest, and the certainty of a consistently saturated grade.

The top natural grade of ruby color: pure, vivid red with a faint blue undertone, mid-toned and intensely saturated. Historically the term described Burmese stones; it now denotes that color from any origin and commands the highest natural-market premiums. Lab-grown stones in this collection are grown to the same saturated standard, so the benchmark color is the default here rather than a rare exception reserved for the top of the price range.

Vermeil is a legally defined standard, not ordinary gold-tone finishing: the FTC requires at least 2.5 microns of 10-karat-or-finer gold over sterling silver. Only color. Both are corundum at Mohs 9 with identical durability; chromium makes the crystal red, and red corundum is by definition ruby — every other color is sapphire. Choosing between them for an engagement ring is therefore a purely aesthetic decision between saturated red and the blue spectrum.
