What the Facets Do
Each dimple works as a tiny angled mirror, so a hammered band throws back many small highlights instead of one broad reflection. Against a polished band that reads as movement rather than shine — the surface changes as the hand turns. It also means the band photographs differently from every angle, which is worth knowing if you are choosing between finishes online. Most of the designs on this page pair the texture with an inlay, so the facets frame a strip of stone, meteorite or Damascus steel rather than competing with it.
Choosing a Width and a Metal
Bands here run from 4mm through 8mm, with 8mm the most common width across the tungsten designs and 5.5mm typical of the sterling silver pieces. Tungsten carbide accounts for most of the collection because it is exceptionally scratch-resistant and noticeably heavier in the hand, and it appears in black, silver, gold, rose gold and two-tone finishes. The sterling silver bands are 925 — 92.5% silver alloyed with 7.5% copper, solid metal through the whole band — and carry a rhodium finish. A smaller group uses 14K rose gold vermeil, which the US FTC defines as a layer of at least 2.5 microns of 10K-or-finer gold bonded over a sterling base, and one design is built in Damascus steel, a layered pattern-forged steel.
Caring for a Textured Band
A hammered surface needs less fussing than a mirror polish, because the facets already break up light and new marks disappear into them. Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush lift dust out of the dimples; dry the band fully before putting it away. Bands with a natural stone or organic inlay — moss agate, opal, abalone shell, meteorite — should skip ultrasonic cleaners, and meteorite in particular has to be kept dry.
