Tungsten Rings

Tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials used in jewelry — 8.5 to 9 on the Mohs scale — which is why a tungsten ring holds its polish through years of daily wear that would visibly scratch gold or silver. It is the practical choice for hands that work.

Browse 2mm to 8mm comfort-fit bands in polished, brushed, hammered and faceted finishes, with black, rose gold, yellow gold and two-tone plating, plus inlays in moss agate, opal, meteorite, whiskey barrel wood, damascus steel and abalone. Starts from $94.

Tungsten rings are the most scratch-resistant wedding bands commonly made, and the reason is the material itself. In jewelry, “tungsten” means tungsten carbide — tungsten fused with carbon under extreme heat and pressure into a compound harder than steel and harder than every common gemstone except diamond and moissanite. It is the same material industry uses for cutting tools, and on a hand it means a band that can look essentially the same after a decade of daily wear as it did on day one.

What Tungsten Carbide Is

Each band starts as powdered carbide, pressed in a mold and sintered above 2,500°F into a single homogeneous solid, then ground and polished to final dimensions. That process is what produces the hardness — and it also means a finished band cannot be cut, stretched or soldered afterward, so the fit you order is the fit you keep. Aquamarise tungsten uses nickel-free, cobalt-free binders, making the rings reliably hypoallergenic. The full material background lives in our tungsten wedding bands guide.

Scratch Resistance and Its Honest Trade-Off

Tungsten carbide sits at 8.5–9 on the Mohs scale. Gold runs 2.5–4 and dents under normal wear; titanium at 6 holds up better but still collects surface marks over years; tungsten simply does not mark in ordinary life — office work, garden tools, gym bars, garage weekends and every commute in between. The evidence is covered honestly in do tungsten rings scratch.

The trade-off is the flip side of the same physics: extreme hardness comes with brittleness, so under extreme blunt force against concrete or machinery a tungsten band shatters rather than bends. For typical daily wear that is a non-issue — and in a medical emergency it is actually the advantage, since a cracked-off band beats a crushed finger. The band also carries a heavier feel than titanium or silver, which most owners come to like. For the full both-ways case, read tungsten pros and cons.

Inlays: Crushed Stone, Meteorite, Wood & Whiskey Barrel

Tungsten’s structural strength supports deep inlay channels, and that is where this collection earns its character. Crushed gemstone bands — amethyst, garnet, emerald, sapphire, morganite, black onyx — set real stone fragments in a continuous ring of color. Genuine meteorite inlays carry the Widmanstätten crystal pattern that cannot be manufactured; see meteorite wedding bands and the meteorite guide. Opal inlays build the store’s trademarked Starry Night® galaxy look. Wood and reclaimed whiskey barrel inlays add warmth with provenance, and Damascus steel pairs its flowing pattern against tungsten’s uniformity. Every inlay sits protected below the band’s hard shoulders.

Finishes, Widths and Profiles

The material comes in three base colors: natural gunmetal silver, black tungsten, and gold-tone tungsten wearing an ion-bonded gold finish in yellow or rose warmth. Surface options run high polish, brushed, matte and hammered, and profiles from flat to classic dome — nearly all with comfort-fit interiors that reduce friction on the finger.

Widths run 2mm minimalist bands through 4mm and 6mm middle weights to 8mm statements. Because a sintered band cannot be altered later, sizing accuracy matters: use the free ring sizer, measure mid-afternoon at room temperature, and for 8mm widths consider a half-size up, since wide bands sit more snugly at the same nominal size. Our width guide shows how each width reads on real hands. One note for pairs: couples ordering matching bands should each measure rather than inferring one fit from the other — two fingers that look alike can sit a full size apart, and the sizer settles it in minutes.

Men’s, Women’s and Couples Lanes

This page is the full tungsten hub — every width, finish and inlay in one grid. Shoppers after wider profiles and men’s styling can go straight to men’s tungsten rings; slimmer refined profiles live in tungsten women’s wedding bands; and coordinated his-and-hers pairs — including sets that match a tungsten band with a gemstone ring in another metal — live in couples rings. If you want a precious metal instead, the gold rings hub and platinum jewelry carry the other end of the spectrum.

Maximum Durability, Honest Value

Tungsten carbide delivers its scratch resistance at a fraction of precious-metal prices — bands here start from $94 — with hand-set inlays, hypoallergenic construction and insured worldwide delivery, plus a 14-day return window on non-customized pieces. We hold a 4.9-star average across 38,000+ reviews collected on our store and on Etsy, where we have sold since 2016.
