Sardonyx held August in the earliest traditions; peridot was promoted alongside it when American jewelers standardized the chart in 1912 and gradually became the month’s primary stone; and in 2016 the trade added spinel, giving buyers a durable faceted alternative in colors peridot cannot offer. All three remain official — a wearer born in August may claim whichever speaks to them.
