The Design
Ravenna is built like a piece of castle ironwork. The hexagon sits in a beaded frame, and from the frame scrolls curl outward in every direction, each edged in milgrain, so the setting reads as a small ornament rather than a plain halo. A marquise onyx crowns the top and bottom of the frame, and the shoulders open into milgrain loops that hold a round onyx each before the band narrows.
It is a castlecore ring: dark, ornate and a little medieval, for anyone whose taste runs to romantasy and courts after dark. It sits naturally among our gothic engagement rings and our Night Court jewelry. If you are looking past a plain solitaire, our guide to fantasy engagement rings maps the wider field.
The Starry Night® Stone
Starry Night® is our name for a deep midnight-blue stone scattered with countless tiny points of light. Tip your hand and the points flare and travel across the surface, like a clear night sky seen from a tower window. Here it is cut as an elongated hexagon, 4 × 10 mm, which runs the length of the finger and gives the frame something long to wrap around.
No two stones carry the same scatter, so yours will have its own sky. The rest of the family is in our Starry Night® engagement rings collection.
The Black Onyx and the Metal
The two marquise stones and the two rounds are natural black onyx, an opaque black chalcedony. Where the center sparkles, the onyx drinks the light, and that contrast is what gives the ring its shadowed presence. Our piece on black onyx meaning covers the lore behind the stone.
The ring is solid 925 sterling silver with a black ruthenium finish, a platinum-group metal that settles to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat black. The slight reflectivity is what keeps every bead of the milgrain visible. Part of our black onyx engagement rings and black ruthenium jewelry collections; our guide to gothic wedding rings covers the wider style.

Care
Treat the Starry Night® stone gently: take the ring off for the gym, gardening and heavy cleaning, and keep it away from hard knocks. Clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working the brush along the milgrain. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and household chemicals, which dull the ruthenium finish, and store the ring in its velvet box rather than loose.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Starry Night® stone?
It is our name for a deep midnight-blue stone scattered with countless tiny glittering points that move as the stone turns, like a night sky full of stars.
Is the black onyx natural?
Yes. The two marquise stones and the two rounds are natural black onyx.
Will my stone look exactly like the photos?
It will be the same deep blue, but the scatter of light points is different in every stone, so no two rings are identical.
How big is the center stone?
4 × 10 mm, an elongated hexagon set north to south so the length runs along the finger.
What is milgrain?
The row of tiny beads along the edges of the frame and scrolls. It is an antique jeweler's finish that catches light as a line of small highlights.
How dark is the black ruthenium finish?
Ruthenium finishes to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat jet black. The slight reflectivity keeps the milgrain and scrollwork visible instead of flattening them.
What is the ring made of?
Solid 925 sterling silver throughout, with a black ruthenium finish. No brass or base metal.
Can I wear it every day?
Yes, with care. Remove it for manual work and anything that could knock the stone, and keep it away from harsh chemicals.
What sizes are available?
Sizes 4 through 11, including every half size.
Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Not entirely. The marquise onyx at the lower point of the frame leaves a gap against a straight band. A contour or chevron band will nest more closely.
Can I have it engraved?
Yes. Engraving is available on the inner band, up to 16 characters, and can be added as an option at checkout.
Does it come with a ring box?
Yes. Every order arrives in a free luxury velvet jewelry box.
