The Design
Ravenna is built like a piece of castle ironwork. The hexagon sits in a beaded frame, and from the frame scrolls curl outward in every direction, each edged in milgrain, so the setting reads as a small ornament rather than a plain halo. A marquise stone crowns the top and bottom of the frame, and the shoulders open into milgrain loops that hold a round stone each before the band narrows.
It is a castlecore ring: dark, ornate and a little medieval, for anyone whose taste runs to romantasy and courts after dark. In moss agate and green it reads as the overgrown wing of the castle. It sits naturally among our gothic engagement rings and moss agate engagement rings. If you are looking past a plain solitaire, our guide to fantasy engagement rings maps the wider field.
The Moss Agate
Natural moss agate, a translucent chalcedony. Its green tracery is mineral, manganese and iron oxides that crystallized inside the stone as it formed, rather than organic material, despite the name. Here it is cut as an elongated hexagon, 4 × 10 mm, which runs the length of the finger and gives the frame something long to wrap around.
Patterning varies from stone to stone: yours will share the green character and translucence shown here, with its own arrangement of branching. Moss agate has a long association with growth and renewal, covered in our piece on moss agate meaning for couples, and our comparison of the best cuts for moss agate rings explains what the hexagon does for the stone.
The Accents and the Metal
The two marquise stones and the two rounds are simulated emeralds, green stones chosen to pick up the tracery in the agate. They are not natural or lab-grown emerald.
The ring is solid 925 sterling silver with a black ruthenium finish, a platinum-group metal that settles to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat black. The slight reflectivity is what keeps every bead of the milgrain visible. Part of our black ruthenium jewelry collection; our guide to gothic wedding rings covers the wider style.

Care
Moss agate is 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale and suits daily wear with normal care. Clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working the brush along the milgrain. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and household chemicals, which dull the ruthenium finish, and store the ring in its velvet box rather than loose. See our guide to cleaning a moss agate ring.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the moss agate natural?
Yes. The center stone is natural moss agate. The green tracery is mineral inclusion formed within the stone, not added or treated.
Are the green accent stones emeralds?
No. They are simulated emeralds, green stones made to match the color of emerald. They are not natural or lab-grown emerald.
Will my ring match the photographs?
It will share the same green character and translucence. The exact pattern of branching differs from stone to stone, so no two are identical.
How big is the center stone?
4 × 10 mm, an elongated hexagon set north to south so the length runs along the finger.
What is milgrain?
The row of tiny beads along the edges of the frame and scrolls. It is an antique jeweler's finish that catches light as a line of small highlights.
How dark is the black ruthenium finish?
Ruthenium finishes to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat jet black. The slight reflectivity keeps the milgrain and scrollwork visible instead of flattening them.
What is the ring made of?
Solid 925 sterling silver throughout, with a black ruthenium finish. No brass or base metal.
Does this ring come with other stones?
Yes. The same Ravenna setting is also made with a Starry Night® center and with a lab-grown cornflower sapphire. Use the gemstone swatches on this page to switch between them.
What sizes are available?
Sizes 4 through 11, including every half size.
Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Not entirely. The marquise stone at the lower point of the frame leaves a gap against a straight band. A contour or chevron band will nest more closely.
Can I have it engraved?
Yes. Engraving is available on the inner band, up to 16 characters, and can be added as an option at checkout.
Does it come with a ring box?
Yes. Every order arrives in a free luxury velvet jewelry box.
