The Design
The band is straight and slim, and the story runs along the top of it: a single sapphire in the middle, a crescent moon on each side with its points turned toward the stone, and three round onyx beyond each moon. Worn alone it is a celestial stacking band; worn beneath the Selene wing ring, sold separately, the moons sit under the wings and the two read as one piece.
Selene is named for the Greek goddess of the moon. The band sits naturally among our black ruthenium jewelry and gothic engagement rings; our guide to gothic wedding rings covers the wider style.
The Padparadscha Sapphire
Padparadscha is the rarest color of sapphire, a pink-orange named for the lotus blossom. The stone here is lab-grown sapphire in that color: real corundum, with the same chemistry and the same 9 on the Mohs scale as mined sapphire, grown in a laboratory rather than dug from the ground. It is round cut and held in four prongs. Our sapphire meaning guide covers the history of the stone.
The Black Onyx and the Metal
The six small rounds are natural black onyx, an opaque black chalcedony. Against the dark metal they read as texture more than color, which keeps the sapphire as the single bright point. Our piece on black onyx meaning covers the lore behind the stone.
The band is solid 925 sterling silver with a black ruthenium finish, a platinum-group metal that settles to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat black. The slight reflectivity is what keeps the moons visible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the sapphire real?
Yes. It is genuine sapphire, a corundum, lab-grown rather than mined. Same chemistry, same hardness, same color.
What color is padparadscha?
A soft pink-orange, named for the lotus blossom. It is the rarest natural sapphire color, which is why the lab-grown version is such good value.
Is the black onyx natural?
Yes. The six small rounds are natural black onyx.
Does the wing ring come with it?
No. The Selene wing ring is sold separately. The two are designed to stack, with this band sitting beneath the wings.
Can I wear the band on its own?
Yes. On its own it is a slim celestial stacking band, and it also works as a wedding band against another engagement ring.
How dark is the black ruthenium finish?
Ruthenium finishes to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat jet black. The slight reflectivity keeps the moons visible instead of flattening them.
What is the band made of?
Solid 925 sterling silver throughout, with a black ruthenium finish. No brass or base metal.
What sizes are available?
Sizes 4 through 11, including every half size.
Can I have it engraved?
Yes. Engraving is available on the inner band, up to 16 characters, and can be added as an option at checkout.
Does it come with a ring box?
Yes. Every order arrives in a free luxury velvet jewelry box.
