Six sides, one unrepeatable stone. This natural Herkimer diamond engagement ring holds a hexagon-cut crystal between tapered rows of D-color, VVS1 moissanite — organic cloudscapes at the center, disciplined sparkle at the shoulders. And a note of honesty up front: a Herkimer diamond is not a diamond. It is a naturally formed quartz crystal, which is exactly why no other ring will ever look quite like yours.
What a Herkimer Diamond Really Is
Herkimer diamonds take their name from Herkimer County, New York, where these unusually clear, double-terminated quartz crystals were first documented — the “diamond” is a nickname earned by their glassy brilliance and naturally pointed facets. Chemically they are quartz, around 7.5 on the Mohs scale, and we would rather tell you that plainly than let a name do the selling. What the name cannot convey is the interior: soft veils and speckled inclusions that give each crystal the character of a stone formed over millions of years, not grown to a template. Read the full story in our guide to what a Herkimer diamond is, or browse the wider Herkimer diamond jewelry collection.
The Hexagon Cut
The hexagon frames all that organic texture inside crisp, architectural edges — six clean sides that read modern on the hand without feeling cold. It is a shape for people who want geometry and wildness in the same ring. If the silhouette speaks to you, our hexagon engagement rings collection gathers every stone we cut this way.
D-Color, VVS1 Moissanite Accents
The prong-set geometric center is flanked by tapered moissanite sides, with further accents running down the shoulders of the band. These are premium D-color, VVS1-clarity stones — moissanite is a real lab-grown gemstone, silicon carbide at 9.25 on the Mohs scale, with more fire than diamond. Against the Herkimer’s smoky interior, they act like candlelight against a window at dusk: the center stays atmospheric while the edges burn bright.
Solid White Gold or Platinum
Every ring is made to order in the metal you choose from the drop-down: solid 10K, 14K, or 18K white gold, or platinum. 10K is the most durable and most affordable; 14K is the classic balance of strength and rich white color, and our most popular pick; 18K carries the highest gold content for the most luxurious feel. Platinum is denser, naturally white, and hypoallergenic. Our 10K vs 14K vs 18K karat comparison guide walks through the differences, and you can see the whole tier in our solid gold rings. Other gold colors are available on request.
An Honest Alternative Stone
The Herkimer’s salt-and-pepper style inclusions have made it a favorite of couples who find flawless stones a little anonymous. It photographs like weather, wears like quartz, and costs a fraction of the mined stones it is so often compared to. Sizing & Care
This ring is made to order in your chosen size, so measure with our ring size guide before ordering — sizing can vary slightly from jeweler to jeweler. Care is simple: mild soap, warm water, and a soft brush, then pat dry. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners, take the ring off for heavy work, and store it apart from harder stones so the quartz surface stays pristine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Herkimer diamond a real diamond?
No. A Herkimer diamond is a natural, double-terminated quartz crystal, around 7.5 on the Mohs scale. The name comes from its glassy clarity and naturally faceted points, not from its chemistry, and we state that plainly.
Where do Herkimer diamonds come from?
The name traces to Herkimer County, New York, where these unusually clear quartz crystals were first documented. Each crystal forms naturally with two pointed terminations.
Is the center stone in this ring natural?
Yes. The hexagon-cut Herkimer center is natural quartz, and each crystal carries its own veils and inclusions, so no two rings are ever identical.
What are the accent stones?
Premium moissanite in D color and VVS1 clarity. Moissanite is a real lab-grown gemstone, rated 9.25 on the Mohs scale, with even more fire and brilliance than diamond.
Why pair a cloudy center with brilliant accents?
The contrast is the design. The Herkimer center stays soft and atmospheric while the moissanite sides and shoulder accents supply crisp sparkle, so the ring reads both organic and refined.
Which metal should I choose?
Choose 10K white gold for the most durable, budget-friendly option, 14K for the classic everyday balance most customers pick, or 18K for the highest gold content. Choose platinum for a naturally white, hypoallergenic metal.
Is this ring hypoallergenic?
Yes. It is crafted in solid precious metal, and the platinum option in particular is a favorite for sensitive skin.
Is this real solid gold?
Yes. Every ring is made from solid gold in your chosen karat, 10K, 14K, or 18K, or from solid platinum, precious metal all the way through.
Is quartz durable enough for daily wear?
At around 7.5 on the Mohs scale, Herkimer quartz is harder than steel and handles everyday wear well with sensible care. Remove the ring for rough work and store it away from harder stones.
Will my stone look exactly like the photos?
Very close, never identical. Natural Herkimer crystals vary in tone and inclusions, so your ring will carry its own one-of-a-kind interior.
How do I clean this ring?
Wash it gently with mild soap, warm water, and a soft brush, then pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, which can stress natural inclusions in the crystal.
Is the ring made to order?
Yes. Each ring is crafted to order in your chosen metal and size rather than pulled from stock.
Can I get this ring in yellow or rose gold?
Yes, other gold colors are available on request. Contact us and we will arrange it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Every ring on this page is made in solid gold or platinum — never plated, never gold-filled. Solid gold comes in 10K, 14K and 18K across yellow, white and rose; our platinum is 95% pure, naturally hypoallergenic, and white the whole way through. Available metals vary by design and are listed in the selector above. Our Precious Metal Guide explains how each one wears.
Side by side and brand new, the two look almost identical. The difference shows up over years of wear.
White gold is a gold alloy finished with rhodium for brightness. It sits lighter on the hand and costs less, and the rhodium finish is refreshed every few years to keep it crisp.
Platinum is white all the way through, so there is no finish to renew. It is around 40% denser — noticeably weightier — and over time develops a soft matte patina that many people prefer. It can be polished back to a high shine whenever you like.
Our Platinum vs Gold guide compares durability, cost and upkeep in full.
Solid gold is gold throughout — alloyed for strength, but the same metal at the surface as at the core. Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it, which thins with wear and needs replating to stay bright. Rings on this page are solid gold or platinum only. Our Precious Metal Guide sets out where each makes sense.
Neither tarnishes. Gold and platinum are two of the most stable metals used in fine jewelry, and both hold their color indefinitely. Platinum does develop a satin patina as it is worn — that is surface texture rather than damage, and it polishes out at any time. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush is all either metal asks for; see our Jewelry Care Guide.
Nothing on this page is pulled from a shelf. Each solid gold and platinum ring is cast, set and finished for your order, which takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the design — pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end. Shipping is added once your ring is finished, and paying for faster shipping speeds up transit only — it does not shorten production. Full timings are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Use the Size Chart linked beside the Add to Bag button, or our full Ring Size Chart. Because these rings are made to order, we cut your size from the start rather than resizing a stock band — so measure carefully. Your first resizing is free if it is still not right. Most designs can be adjusted, though eternity bands and rings with stones set the whole way around usually cannot.
On most designs, yes — if engraving is available for this ring, a text field appears with the options above. Standard engraving is complimentary: up to 16 characters on women’s rings and 25 on men’s, set in Arial, with a small selection of symbols included. Custom fonts and symbols are $25 and are arranged before you order. See the Engraving page for what is possible. Engraved rings are final sale.
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery on unworn rings in original condition. Because solid gold and platinum rings are made to order, they are subject to a restocking fee, and engraved pieces are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns & Refunds page. Every ring is also covered by our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
