A loose natural ametrine, pear 6 x 8 mm, about 1.5 carats, faceted in the Faelight™ Cut, Aquamarise’s concave fantasy cut. One side is violet amethyst, the other pale gold citrine, and the two meet across the table. This is the exact stone in the photo and video, unset and ready to set.

The Faelight Cut
The Faelight Cut carves radiating curved grooves into the underside of the stone instead of flat facets. Light reflecting off those curves breaks into fine rays, so the stone reads as a starburst from across a room and as bright lines up close. The pattern is cut into the stone and does not wear off. More on the family in our guide to fantasy-inspired engagement rings.
The Natural Ametrine
Ametrine is natural quartz that grew as amethyst on one side and citrine on the other; the two colors formed in the ground and no two stones split the same way. Quartz is Mohs 7, fine for daily wear with ordinary care. It covers two birthstones, February for amethyst and November for citrine; see the amethyst and citrine guides.
This Stone
The outline is a pear: a teardrop, rounded at one end and pointed at the other. It measures 6 x 8 mm, about 1.5 carats by the cutter’s figure; the millimeters are what a setting is built to.
Same stone, other outlines: kite 7 x 10 mm, kite 6 x 9 mm, long hexagon 5 x 9 mm, long hexagon 6 x 10 mm, oval 6 x 8 mm, coffin 6 x 10 mm, rectangle 6 x 8 mm.
Same pear 6 x 8 mm in other stones: pink sapphire, blue sapphire, green sapphire, lavender sapphire.
Setting It
Leave the back open: prongs, an open-backed bezel or a cathedral with an open gallery keep the starburst alive, while a closed back dims it. This pear has pointed tips, so use a V-prong or claw at each point. Aquamarise can set this stone into a design built around it; start at custom engagement rings or read how to build a custom engagement ring. The rest of our unset stones are in loose gemstones.

Care
Warm water, mild dish soap and a soft brush worked into the grooves on the underside, then rinse and dry on a lint-free cloth. Quartz is softer than sapphire, so keep it away from harder stones in storage. Our guide to cleaning jewelry at home covers the routine.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Faelight Cut?
A concave fantasy cut. The underside of the stone is carved with radiating curved grooves instead of flat facets, so light reflects off the curves and breaks into fine starburst rays. The pattern is cut into the stone and does not wear off.
Is this natural ametrine?
Yes. It is natural bicolor quartz, amethyst and citrine in one crystal, cut from mined rough. The two colors formed in the ground. It is not glass and not a dyed or assembled stone.
Is the photo the stone I will receive?
Yes. This listing is one individual stone, photographed and filmed on its own. If it sells and is cut again, the replacement is the same size and color but a different stone.
What happens if it shows as sold out?
It can usually be cut again to order in the same size and color; allow roughly three to five weeks. Contact us before ordering if timing matters.
Can Aquamarise set this stone into a ring or pendant?
Yes. Contact us with the setting you have in mind; we build the design around the stone's exact dimensions. Open-backed settings suit this cut best because the starburst lives in the pavilion.
Does it come with a certificate?
No. No independent laboratory report is included. The stone type, origin, dimensions and approximate carat weight are stated on this page; an independent appraisal can be arranged after purchase.
How durable is it for daily wear?
Quartz is 7 on the Mohs scale, fine for everyday rings with ordinary care. Take it off for heavy work and keep it away from harder stones in storage.
