Some stones perform best on a quiet stage. The Evelyn is an alexandrite engagement ring set in cool solid white gold or platinum — a deliberately neutral setting that lets its two-carat oval do all the talking as it moves from bluish green in daylight to purplish red by lamplight. With a contoured wedding band that traces the engagement ring’s curves, it is the most understated showcase in our alexandrite engagement rings collection — and arguably the most dramatic.
The Engagement Ring
A timeless silhouette holding a 7 x 9 mm oval lab-grown alexandrite of approximately 2.0 carats, brightened by your choice of moissanite or natural diamond accent stones.
The Contoured Band
The matching wedding band is contoured to follow the engagement ring’s profile, so the two rings nest together as one continuous, seamless design.
Why white metal is the connoisseur’s choice for alexandrite
Alexandrite changes color; a white setting refuses to interfere. Where warm metals pull the eye toward the stone’s red mood, an alexandrite ring in white gold or platinum stays neutral in every light, so both the daylight green and the evening red appear exactly as the stone produces them. It is the same logic a gallery uses: white walls, extraordinary subject. That restraint is what gives the Evelyn its quietly luxurious character among our white gold jewelry.
Two carats of transformation
The oval center stone measures 7 x 9 mm — about 2.0 carats — and carries alexandrite’s defining trait: a genuine color change, bluish green under daylight and fluorescent light, purplish red under incandescent and candle light. Among color-change stones it has no real rival; even fine sapphire cannot follow it across the spectrum, a comparison our journal takes up in alexandrite vs sapphire.
Lab-grown: the same stone, told honestly
The Evelyn’s center is lab-grown alexandrite — chemically and optically identical to mined alexandrite, with the same color shift and the same tough 8.5 Mohs hardness, created above ground. Because fine natural alexandrite is scarcer than diamond, growing the stone is what makes a two-carat example possible at this price. Our plain-language guide to lab-grown vs natural alexandrite explains the distinction fully.
Accent stones, two ways
Choose your accents from the drop-down: moissanite in D color and VVS1 clarity for maximum fire, or natural diamonds in G/H color and eye-clean I1 clarity, sourced conflict-free. Either option surrounds the color-changing center with pure white brilliance that suits the set’s cool palette.
Four metals, one standard: solid
Every ring is cast in genuinely solid precious metal — never plated over base metal, never able to turn your skin green. Select 10K white gold for the most durable and affordable option, 14K for the classic balance and our most popular pick, 18K for the highest gold content, or platinum for a naturally white, denser, hypoallergenic metal that never needs re-coating. Compare golds in our 10K vs 14K vs 18K karat guide, weigh the premium option with our platinum vs gold guide, and see where the Evelyn sits among our wedding ring sets for women and wider solid gold rings. Rose gold or yellow gold is available on request.

Sizing & care
Pick your size from the drop-down menu — half and quarter sizes are offered — after measuring with our ring sizing guide; jewelers’ sizing tools can differ by up to half a size. Alexandrite’s 8.5 hardness and the density of white gold and platinum make this an easy set to live with: an occasional wash in warm, soapy water and a soft-cloth dry is all it asks. Set the rings aside for heavy lifting, gardening, and abrasive cleaners, and let the contoured pair rest nested in their box overnight.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Evelyn different from other alexandrite sets?
Its cool white palette. Set in solid white gold or platinum with a contoured band that nests against the engagement ring, the Evelyn is designed as a neutral stage that shows alexandrite's green-to-red color change without any warm-metal influence.
How does the color change actually work?
Alexandrite transmits both green and red light almost equally. Daylight is rich in green wavelengths, so the stone looks bluish green; incandescent light is rich in red, so it turns purplish red. The shift is a property of the crystal itself, visible every time your lighting changes.
Is lab-grown alexandrite a real gemstone?
Yes. It is genuine alexandrite - identical chemistry, identical color change, identical 8.5 Mohs hardness - grown in a laboratory rather than mined. It is not a simulant or an imitation.
What size is the center stone?
An oval of approximately 7.0 x 9.0 mm, weighing about 2.0 carats.
What is a contoured wedding band?
A band shaped to follow the outline of its engagement ring rather than running straight across. The Evelyn's band curves with the engagement ring's silhouette so the two sit flush together with no gap.
Can I wear the two rings separately?
Yes. The engagement ring stands confidently on its own, and the contoured band makes a delicate solo ring or stacker when you want a lighter look.
Should I choose white gold or platinum?
White gold offers three karat levels at different prices and wears beautifully. Platinum is naturally white, noticeably denser, hypoallergenic, and holds its color without any surface treatment, which makes it the premium pick and ideal for sensitive skin.
Is the metal solid or coated?
Solid through and through, in every option. There is no base metal core and no surface layer, so the color runs the full depth of the ring and your skin will never turn green.
What are the accent stone choices?
Moissanite in D color and VVS1 clarity, prized for intense fire, or natural conflict-free diamonds in G/H color with eye-clean I1 clarity. Select whichever you prefer from the drop-down menu.
Is alexandrite hard enough for an everyday engagement ring?
Yes. At 8.5 on the Mohs scale, alexandrite ranks just behind sapphire and diamond, comfortably harder than emerald, morganite, and most other popular center stones, so it stands up well to daily wear.
How long does it take to make my set?
The Evelyn is made to order; please allow 3-5 weeks for production before shipping. Requested modifications may change the timeline and pricing.
How should I confirm my ring size?
Measure with our free online sizing guide before ordering. Half and quarter sizes are offered, and sizing can vary by up to half a size between different jewelers' tools.
Are engraving and an appraisal available?
Yes. Complimentary engraving of up to 16 characters is included, and an optional appraisal can be selected from the drop-down menu; the appraisal fee is non-refundable once the work is performed.
✨ Production time
Every ring on this page is cast, set and finished for your order. Nothing is taken from stock.
- Made-to-order solid gold and platinum: 3–6 weeks, depending on the design. Pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end.

- FedEx Home Delivery® — $10
- FedEx 2Day® — $22

We ship worldwide with DHL. Live rates for your address are calculated at checkout — usually DHL Express Worldwide, with DHL eCommerce Parcel Standard also offered to some destinations as a slower, lower-cost option.

Every order ships fully insured and requires a signature. Full details on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Engraving is cut into the inside of the band, so it stays between the two of you.
AVAILABILITY
Engraving is offered on most — though not all — designs. If it is available for this ring, an engraving field appears with the options above.

Frequently Asked Questions
Every ring on this page is made in solid gold or platinum — never plated, never gold-filled. Solid gold comes in 10K, 14K and 18K across yellow, white and rose; our platinum is 95% pure, naturally hypoallergenic, and white the whole way through. Available metals vary by design and are listed in the selector above. Our Precious Metal Guide explains how each one wears.
Side by side and brand new, the two look almost identical. The difference shows up over years of wear.
White gold is a gold alloy finished with rhodium for brightness. It sits lighter on the hand and costs less, and the rhodium finish is refreshed every few years to keep it crisp.
Platinum is white all the way through, so there is no finish to renew. It is around 40% denser — noticeably weightier — and over time develops a soft matte patina that many people prefer. It can be polished back to a high shine whenever you like.
Our Platinum vs Gold guide compares durability, cost and upkeep in full.
Solid gold is gold throughout — alloyed for strength, but the same metal at the surface as at the core. Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it, which thins with wear and needs replating to stay bright. Rings on this page are solid gold or platinum only. Our Precious Metal Guide sets out where each makes sense.
Neither tarnishes. Gold and platinum are two of the most stable metals used in fine jewelry, and both hold their color indefinitely. Platinum does develop a satin patina as it is worn — that is surface texture rather than damage, and it polishes out at any time. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush is all either metal asks for; see our Jewelry Care Guide.
Nothing on this page is pulled from a shelf. Each solid gold and platinum ring is cast, set and finished for your order, which takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the design — pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end. Shipping is added once your ring is finished, and paying for faster shipping speeds up transit only — it does not shorten production. Full timings are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Use the Size Chart linked beside the Add to Bag button, or our full Ring Size Chart. Because these rings are made to order, we cut your size from the start rather than resizing a stock band — so measure carefully. Your first resizing is free if it is still not right. Most designs can be adjusted, though eternity bands and rings with stones set the whole way around usually cannot.
On most designs, yes — if engraving is available for this ring, a text field appears with the options above. Standard engraving is complimentary: up to 16 characters on women’s rings and 25 on men’s, set in Arial, with a small selection of symbols included. Custom fonts and symbols are $25 and are arranged before you order. See the Engraving page for what is possible. Engraved rings are final sale.
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery on unworn rings in original condition. Because solid gold and platinum rings are made to order, they are subject to a restocking fee, and engraved pieces are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns & Refunds page. Every ring is also covered by our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
