An emerald cut moss agate engagement ring in solid white gold or platinum. The center stone is a natural moss agate cut to 6.0 x 8.0 mm — approximately 1.8 carats — with a hidden halo of moissanite set beneath it, visible from the side profile rather than from above.
Why an emerald cut on this stone
The emerald cut is a step cut — long parallel facets arranged in terraces rather than the triangular facets of a brilliant. It was developed for emeralds, where the goal was to show a stone's color and clarity cleanly instead of breaking light into flashes. That intent maps almost perfectly onto moss agate.
Moss agate is prized for what is inside it, not for sparkle. The wide open table of an emerald cut behaves like a pane of glass over the dendritic inclusions, so you look straight down into the stone's structure. A brilliant cut would fracture that view into dozens of small reflections. Our comparison of the best cuts for moss agate covers how each shape changes what you see, and you can browse the shape across other gems in our emerald cut engagement rings.
The hidden halo
A hidden halo is a ring of small stones set on the outer edge of the basket, below the center stone, facing outward. From directly above you do not see it at all — the silhouette stays clean. From the side, and at every angle in between, it catches light along the underside of the setting.
It is a useful device on an opaque or translucent center stone specifically, because it adds brilliance to the ring without putting sparkle next to the moss agate where it would compete with the pattern. The accents here are moissanite: a lab-grown gemstone in its own right, not a diamond simulant. More on the distinction in is moissanite a lab-grown diamond, and more of the setting style in our hidden halo engagement rings.
White gold, or platinum
Cool metal reads differently against moss agate than warm metal does. White gold and platinum pull the stone toward its mineral, slate-and-forest side; rose and yellow push it toward botanical warmth. Neither is more correct — it depends which quality of the stone you want foregrounded.
All four options here are solid metal, so the color is permanent and will not wear through. Platinum is the premium choice: denser in the hand, naturally white rather than alloyed to be white, hypoallergenic, and it never needs re-plating. The 10K vs 14K vs 18K guide explains what karat actually changes, and moss agate in gold versus silver covers how metal color shifts the stone.
Every stone is one of a kind
The green in moss agate is not body color — it is mineral inclusions, typically chlorite or hornblende, that grew inside the chalcedony while it formed. The density and branching of those inclusions vary from stone to stone, so yours will share the same green character as the moss agate in our photographs while carrying its own pattern.

Care
Moss agate sits at 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. That is hard enough for daily wear but softer than sapphire or diamond, so it will mark if it meets something harder. Take the ring off for gardening, weightlifting and household cleaning.
Wash with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners — agate is porous enough that heat and vibration pose a real risk. Detail in how to clean a moss agate ring safely and is moss agate durable.

Frequently asked questions
Is the moss agate natural?
Yes. The center stone is natural moss agate — mined and cut, not lab-created or simulated.
What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small accent stones set on the outer edge of the basket beneath the center stone, facing outward. It is invisible from directly above and catches light from the side.
Why choose an emerald cut for moss agate?
The emerald cut is a step cut with a wide, open table. It acts like a window onto the stone's inclusions rather than breaking light into flashes, which shows moss agate's pattern far better than a brilliant cut would.
Will my stone match the photographs?
It will share the same green character and translucency, but its inclusion pattern will be unique to it. No two moss agates are alike.
How big is the center stone?
6.0 x 8.0 mm, which works out to approximately 1.8 carats.
Is this solid gold or plated?
Solid throughout — solid white gold in your chosen karat, or solid platinum. Never plated or gold-filled, so the white color is permanent.
Should I choose white gold or platinum?
Both are excellent. White gold is lighter and more affordable across all three karats. Platinum is denser, naturally white rather than alloyed white, hypoallergenic, and never needs re-plating.
What are the accent stones?
Moissanite — a lab-grown gemstone, not a diamond simulant. It is extremely brilliant and hard enough for everyday wear.
Is moss agate durable enough for an engagement ring?
Yes, with normal care. At 6.5–7 Mohs it handles daily wear but should be protected from impact and abrasive tasks.
Can I have this in yellow or rose gold?
Yes, on request. White gold and platinum are the standard options for this design — contact us for a quote on other colors.
How long does production take?
This ring is made to order. Please allow 3–5 weeks. Requested modifications may extend that timeline.
Is engraving included?
Yes, complimentary, up to 16 characters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Every ring on this page is made in solid gold or platinum — never plated, never gold-filled. Solid gold comes in 10K, 14K and 18K across yellow, white and rose; our platinum is 95% pure, naturally hypoallergenic, and white the whole way through. Available metals vary by design and are listed in the selector above. Our Precious Metal Guide explains how each one wears.
Side by side and brand new, the two look almost identical. The difference shows up over years of wear.
White gold is a gold alloy finished with rhodium for brightness. It sits lighter on the hand and costs less, and the rhodium finish is refreshed every few years to keep it crisp.
Platinum is white all the way through, so there is no finish to renew. It is around 40% denser — noticeably weightier — and over time develops a soft matte patina that many people prefer. It can be polished back to a high shine whenever you like.
Our Platinum vs Gold guide compares durability, cost and upkeep in full.
Solid gold is gold throughout — alloyed for strength, but the same metal at the surface as at the core. Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it, which thins with wear and needs replating to stay bright. Rings on this page are solid gold or platinum only. Our Precious Metal Guide sets out where each makes sense.
Neither tarnishes. Gold and platinum are two of the most stable metals used in fine jewelry, and both hold their color indefinitely. Platinum does develop a satin patina as it is worn — that is surface texture rather than damage, and it polishes out at any time. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush is all either metal asks for; see our Jewelry Care Guide.
Nothing on this page is pulled from a shelf. Each solid gold and platinum ring is cast, set and finished for your order, which takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the design — pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end. Shipping is added once your ring is finished, and paying for faster shipping speeds up transit only — it does not shorten production. Full timings are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Use the Size Chart linked beside the Add to Bag button, or our full Ring Size Chart. Because these rings are made to order, we cut your size from the start rather than resizing a stock band — so measure carefully. Your first resizing is free if it is still not right. Most designs can be adjusted, though eternity bands and rings with stones set the whole way around usually cannot.
On most designs, yes — if engraving is available for this ring, a text field appears with the options above. Standard engraving is complimentary: up to 16 characters on women’s rings and 25 on men’s, set in Arial, with a small selection of symbols included. Custom fonts and symbols are $25 and are arranged before you order. See the Engraving page for what is possible. Engraved rings are final sale.
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery on unworn rings in original condition. Because solid gold and platinum rings are made to order, they are subject to a restocking fee, and engraved pieces are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns & Refunds page. Every ring is also covered by our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
