Picture a moonlit sky caught mid-shimmer: that is the Starburst. This vintage-inspired take on the moonstone halo ring sets a natural 4 × 5 mm oval moonstone — approximately 0.35 carats of soft, rolling glow — inside a starburst frame of accent stones, in solid white gold or platinum. Choose moissanite or natural diamond accents, add a free engraving, and the celestial story is complete.
A Starburst Instead of a Plain Halo
Where a conventional halo circles its center in a smooth ring of stones, the Starburst arranges its accents like rays — a star flaring around the moonstone the way light flares around the moon on a clear night. The effect is distinctly vintage: celestial motifs like this crowned rings of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, and they are enjoying a revival among couples who want romance with a sense of history. Our guide to engagement ring styles and setting types maps where star-inspired settings sit in the wider landscape, and our vintage and antique engagement rings collection gathers its kindred spirits.
The Moonstone: Natural, Luminous, Alive
The center stone is a natural oval moonstone, 4.0 × 5.0 mm and approximately 0.35 carats — a dainty, refined scale that suits the delicate character of the design. Moonstone’s hallmark is adularescence, the drifting blue-white sheen that moves across the stone as your hand does; it has symbolized intuition, balance, and everlasting love since antiquity, a story our journal tells in moonstone meaning. Every one of our moonstone engagement rings glows differently, because every natural moonstone is its own stone.
Your Accents: Moissanite or Natural Diamond
The starburst rays are set with your choice of accent stones, selected from the drop-down. Moissanite comes graded D color and VVS1 clarity at Mohs 9 — icy, brilliant, and remarkably durable; if you are curious how close it runs to diamond, see does moissanite pass a diamond tester. The natural diamond option is G/H color, I1 clarity that reads eye-clean, conflict-free, and Mohs 10. Both choices sparkle vividly against the moonstone’s glow; the diamond option adds natural-stone provenance, the moissanite maximizes fire per dollar.
White Gold or Platinum, Naturally Cool
The Starburst is made to order in solid 10K, 14K, or 18K white gold or platinum — every option a naturally white metal that lets the moonstone’s blue flash take the stage. 10K is the hardest and most affordable; 14K is the most popular all-rounder; 18K carries the richest gold content; platinum is the densest, naturally white, and hypoallergenic for sensitive skin. Our 10K vs 14K vs 18K karat guide and our platinum vs gold comparison make the choice easy. The band averages a slender 1.7 mm, keeping the profile graceful, and complimentary engraving (up to 16 characters) turns the inside of the band into a private message.

Sizing & Care
Order your exact size — our find-your-size guide walks you through measuring at home, and note that sizing can vary up to a half size between jewelers’ tools. Moonstone sits at 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale, softer than diamond, so it asks for delicate care: remove the ring for workouts, gardening, and cleaning; avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners; and wash gently with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Our honest guide to moonstone durability, care, and settings goes deeper. The Starburst ships free in the USA in a free luxury ring box.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the moonstone natural?
Yes — a natural oval-cut moonstone, 4.0 x 5.0 mm and approximately 0.35 carats. Its blue-white adularescence formed in the stone itself, so no two rings glow exactly alike.
What makes the setting a starburst?
Instead of a smooth circle of accents, the stones radiate outward like the rays of a star — a vintage, celestial variation on the classic halo that frames the moonstone with flare rather than a plain ring.
Should I choose moissanite or natural diamond accents?
Moissanite (D color, VVS1, Mohs 9) delivers maximum brilliance for the price; natural diamond (G/H, I1 eye-clean, conflict-free, Mohs 10) adds mined-stone provenance. Both look stunning against the moonstone — it comes down to budget and sentiment.
Is moonstone durable enough for an engagement ring?
With mindful habits, yes. Moonstone is 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale — softer than diamond — so remove the ring for impact-heavy tasks and it will keep its glow for years. It is a stone you care for, and it repays the attention.
What if I want a more durable center stone?
We can substitute the center stone with a harder gemstone on request — contact us and we will walk you through the options and provide a quote before you order.
Which metal should I pick?
10K white gold is the hardest and most affordable; 14K is the most popular balance of strength and value; 18K has the richest gold content; platinum is the densest, naturally white, and hypoallergenic. Every option is a solid precious metal.
Why does white metal suit moonstone?
Moonstone’s glow leans blue and silver, and a cool-toned metal amplifies it — the whole ring reads like a single beam of moonlight, which is exactly the effect the starburst design is chasing.
How wide is the band?
About 1.7 mm on average — slender and comfortable, keeping the focus on the starburst and letting the ring stack easily with a wedding band later.
Can I get it engraved?
Yes — complimentary engraving of up to 16 characters is included. A date, a name, or a few words turns the inside of the band into a secret only you two share.
How long does it take to make?
Each ring is made to order and handmade over 3–5 weeks. Requested modifications may extend the timeline and adjust pricing, so plan ahead of your proposal date.
How do I care for this ring?
Warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth — never ultrasonic or steam cleaners, and keep it away from harsh chemicals. Take it off for the gym and garden and the moonstone will stay luminous.
How do I find my ring size?
Use the find-your-size guide linked in the sizing section. Sizing can vary up to a half size between ring sizers and mandrels, so measuring carefully at home is worth the five minutes.
What is included with my order?
A free luxury ring box, free USA shipping, complimentary engraving, and conflict-free stones — the ring arrives finished, sized, and ready for the question.

Frequently Asked Questions
Every ring on this page is made in solid gold or platinum — never plated, never gold-filled. Solid gold comes in 10K, 14K and 18K across yellow, white and rose; our platinum is 95% pure, naturally hypoallergenic, and white the whole way through. Available metals vary by design and are listed in the selector above. Our Precious Metal Guide explains how each one wears.
Side by side and brand new, the two look almost identical. The difference shows up over years of wear.
White gold is a gold alloy finished with rhodium for brightness. It sits lighter on the hand and costs less, and the rhodium finish is refreshed every few years to keep it crisp.
Platinum is white all the way through, so there is no finish to renew. It is around 40% denser — noticeably weightier — and over time develops a soft matte patina that many people prefer. It can be polished back to a high shine whenever you like.
Our Platinum vs Gold guide compares durability, cost and upkeep in full.
Solid gold is gold throughout — alloyed for strength, but the same metal at the surface as at the core. Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it, which thins with wear and needs replating to stay bright. Rings on this page are solid gold or platinum only. Our Precious Metal Guide sets out where each makes sense.
Neither tarnishes. Gold and platinum are two of the most stable metals used in fine jewelry, and both hold their color indefinitely. Platinum does develop a satin patina as it is worn — that is surface texture rather than damage, and it polishes out at any time. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush is all either metal asks for; see our Jewelry Care Guide.
Nothing on this page is pulled from a shelf. Each solid gold and platinum ring is cast, set and finished for your order, which takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the design — pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end. Shipping is added once your ring is finished, and paying for faster shipping speeds up transit only — it does not shorten production. Full timings are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Use the Size Chart linked beside the Add to Bag button, or our full Ring Size Chart. Because these rings are made to order, we cut your size from the start rather than resizing a stock band — so measure carefully. Your first resizing is free if it is still not right. Most designs can be adjusted, though eternity bands and rings with stones set the whole way around usually cannot.
On most designs, yes — if engraving is available for this ring, a text field appears with the options above. Standard engraving is complimentary: up to 16 characters on women’s rings and 25 on men’s, set in Arial, with a small selection of symbols included. Custom fonts and symbols are $25 and are arranged before you order. See the Engraving page for what is possible. Engraved rings are final sale.
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery on unworn rings in original condition. Because solid gold and platinum rings are made to order, they are subject to a restocking fee, and engraved pieces are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns & Refunds page. Every ring is also covered by our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
