Lunette means “little moon,” and this vintage-inspired teardrop alexandrite ring set wears its name well: a pear-shaped drop of lab-grown alexandrite that waxes bluish green through the day and deepens to purplish red by night, cradled in warm solid rose gold beside its matching wedding band. Alexandrite has long symbolized balance, transformation, and good fortune — fitting company among our alexandrite engagement rings for a love with more than one phase.
The Engagement Ring
A 9 x 6 mm teardrop lab-grown alexandrite of approximately 1.5 carats, framed by 0.3 total carats of moissanite or natural diamond accents in vintage-inspired rose gold.
The Wedding Band
The coordinating rose gold band completes the two-piece set, made to sit beside the teardrop ring as a matched pair or to be worn on its own.
Teardrop or pear? Both — and that is the charm
Jewelers call this shape a pear; romantics call it a teardrop. Either way, a pear alexandrite ring gives you the best of two classic cuts at once — the soft curve of an oval at one end, the elegant taper of a marquise at the other. The point visually lengthens the finger, and the 9 x 6 mm proportions keep the stone graceful rather than showy. Our pear-shaped engagement rings guide covers the shape in depth, and you can see its range across our pear-shaped engagement rings.
A stone with phases, like its namesake moon
Alexandrite’s celebrated color change is real and dramatic: bluish green in daylight, purplish red under incandescent or candle light. The teardrop cut gives the stone a long, smooth face across which the transformation plays out. If the science intrigues you, our journal explains how lab-grown alexandrite changes color — the short version is that it is the same optical marvel found in mined alexandrite, in a stone grown above ground.
Genuinely alexandrite, sensibly grown
The center stone is lab-grown alexandrite: chemically identical to natural alexandrite, with the same color-shifting behavior and the same durable 8.5 Mohs hardness. Fine mined alexandrite is one of the scarcest gems in the world, so growing the crystal is what puts a clean, vividly color-changing 1.5-carat teardrop within reach. It is a real alexandrite in every meaningful sense — only its birthplace differs.
Vintage lines in blushing rose gold
The Lunette’s detailing nods to antique jewelry — a romantic, heirloom sensibility shared by our vintage and antique-style engagement rings — rendered in solid rose gold that will never lose its blush. Choose your karat from the drop-down: 10K for maximum hardness and value, 14K for the most popular balance of color and strength, or 18K for the richest, warmest hue; our karat comparison guide helps you decide. The finished pair takes its place among our wedding ring sets for women.
Accents, your way
Frame the teardrop with your choice of accent stones, 0.3 total carats either way: moissanite in clear-white D color at 9–9.25 Mohs hardness, or natural diamonds in G/H color and eye-clean I1 clarity at Mohs 10, sourced conflict-free. Select your preference from the drop-down menu.

Sizing & care
Choose your size from the drop-down — half and quarter sizes are offered — and confirm it with our ring sizing guide before ordering, since tools vary between jewelers by up to half a size. Day to day, the set asks little: alexandrite’s 8.5 hardness shrugs off normal wear, and warm water with mild soap restores the shine. Slip the rings off for workouts and rough chores, mind the teardrop’s point when stacking other jewelry, and let the pair rest in its box overnight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a teardrop alexandrite ring the same as a pear cut?
Yes. Teardrop and pear are two names for the same silhouette: rounded at one end and tapering to a point at the other. The Lunette's center stone is a 9 x 6 mm teardrop, also correctly described as a pear-cut alexandrite.
Which direction should the teardrop point?
Tradition points the tip toward the fingernail to elongate the finger, but plenty of wearers point it toward the wrist or even sideways. There is no wrong answer; the shape is graceful in any orientation.
Does the alexandrite really change color?
It does. Expect bluish green under daylight and cool lighting, and purplish red under incandescent bulbs and candlelight. The shift comes from how the crystal absorbs light, so it happens every time your surroundings change.
Is lab-grown alexandrite genuine alexandrite?
Yes. Lab-grown alexandrite shares the exact chemistry, color-changing optics, and 8.5 Mohs hardness of mined alexandrite. It is a real alexandrite grown in a controlled environment, not a simulant.
What does alexandrite symbolize?
Alexandrite is traditionally associated with balance, transformation, and good fortune - a stone whose two colors have long been read as a reminder that love holds steady through change.
How big is the center stone?
The teardrop measures approximately 9.0 x 6.0 mm and weighs about 1.5 carats.
What comes in this ring set?
Two rings sold together: the Lunette teardrop alexandrite engagement ring and its matching rose gold wedding band, delivered in a luxury ring box with free U.S. shipping.
What are the accent stone options?
Your choice of moissanite - clear-white D color, 0.3 total carats, 9-9.25 Mohs - or natural diamonds in G/H color and eye-clean I1 clarity, also 0.3 total carats. Pick your preference from the drop-down menu.
Which rose gold karat is right for me?
10K rose gold is the hardest and most affordable, 14K is the most popular all-around balance of durability and warm color, and 18K offers the highest gold purity with the richest blush. All three are solid rose gold throughout.
Will the rose color ever wear away?
No. The rings are solid gold from surface to core, so there is no layer to rub off and the color is permanent. Solid gold also will not turn your skin green.
Can this set handle everyday wear?
Yes. At 8.5 on the Mohs scale, alexandrite is harder than nearly every colored gemstone except sapphire, and the slim 1.7 mm bands are built for comfortable daily use with simple care.
How long is the production time?
The Lunette set is made to order; please allow 3-5 weeks for your rings to be handcrafted before shipping. Modifications may extend the timeline and adjust pricing.
Do you offer engraving, sizing help, or appraisals?
All three. Complimentary engraving up to 16 characters is included, our free online sizing guide covers half and quarter sizes, and an optional appraisal can be selected from the drop-down menu; the appraisal fee is non-refundable once performed.
✨ Production time
Every ring on this page is cast, set and finished for your order. Nothing is taken from stock.
- Made-to-order solid gold and platinum: 3–6 weeks, depending on the design. Pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end.

Every order ships fully insured and requires a signature. Full details on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Engraving is cut into the inside of the band, so it stays between the two of you.
AVAILABILITY
Engraving is offered on most — though not all — designs. If it is available for this ring, an engraving field appears with the options above.

Limits depend on the width and design of the band. Spaces count toward the total.

Standard engraving is complimentary and set in Arial, chosen because it stays legible at very small sizes. These symbols are included at no extra cost:

Frequently Asked Questions
Every ring on this page is made in solid gold or platinum — never plated, never gold-filled. Solid gold comes in 10K, 14K and 18K across yellow, white and rose; our platinum is 95% pure, naturally hypoallergenic, and white the whole way through. Available metals vary by design and are listed in the selector above. Our Precious Metal Guide explains how each one wears.
Side by side and brand new, the two look almost identical. The difference shows up over years of wear.
White gold is a gold alloy finished with rhodium for brightness. It sits lighter on the hand and costs less, and the rhodium finish is refreshed every few years to keep it crisp.
Platinum is white all the way through, so there is no finish to renew. It is around 40% denser — noticeably weightier — and over time develops a soft matte patina that many people prefer. It can be polished back to a high shine whenever you like.
Our Platinum vs Gold guide compares durability, cost and upkeep in full.
Solid gold is gold throughout — alloyed for strength, but the same metal at the surface as at the core. Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it, which thins with wear and needs replating to stay bright. Rings on this page are solid gold or platinum only. Our Precious Metal Guide sets out where each makes sense.
Neither tarnishes. Gold and platinum are two of the most stable metals used in fine jewelry, and both hold their color indefinitely. Platinum does develop a satin patina as it is worn — that is surface texture rather than damage, and it polishes out at any time. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush is all either metal asks for; see our Jewelry Care Guide.
Nothing on this page is pulled from a shelf. Each solid gold and platinum ring is cast, set and finished for your order, which takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the design — pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end. Shipping is added once your ring is finished, and paying for faster shipping speeds up transit only — it does not shorten production. Full timings are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Use the Size Chart linked beside the Add to Bag button, or our full Ring Size Chart. Because these rings are made to order, we cut your size from the start rather than resizing a stock band — so measure carefully. Your first resizing is free if it is still not right. Most designs can be adjusted, though eternity bands and rings with stones set the whole way around usually cannot.
On most designs, yes — if engraving is available for this ring, a text field appears with the options above. Standard engraving is complimentary: up to 16 characters on women’s rings and 25 on men’s, set in Arial, with a small selection of symbols included. Custom fonts and symbols are $25 and are arranged before you order. See the Engraving page for what is possible. Engraved rings are final sale.
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery on unworn rings in original condition. Because solid gold and platinum rings are made to order, they are subject to a restocking fee, and engraved pieces are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns & Refunds page. Every ring is also covered by our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
