If the geometric cuts are the conversation starters, the Ava is the classic that outlasts them all. This oval alexandrite engagement ring carries a substantial 2.0-carat, lab-grown color-change stone — bluish green in daylight, purplish red in warm evening light — ringed by a halo of accent stones in solid white gold or platinum. It is the softest, most traditional silhouette among our alexandrite engagement rings, and the one with the largest center stone.
An oval with real presence
At 7.0 x 9.0 mm and approximately 2.0 carats, the Ava’s center stone is the largest alexandrite in this family — noticeably bigger than the hexagon and kite cuts it shares a collection with. The oval’s rounded outline has no corners to catch, wears gracefully, and elongates the finger, which is why it remains one of the most requested engagement shapes year after year. Compare it with the rest of our oval engagement rings to see how unusual a 2-carat color-change center really is.
Two rings’ worth of color in one stone
The lab-grown alexandrite at the Ava’s heart is real alexandrite — the same chemistry and 8.5 Mohs hardness as the mined gem — selected for a strong, repeatable shift: bluish green and teal under daylight and cool bulbs, purplish red under incandescent light and candlelight, violet and magenta in between. The bigger the stone, the more theater the change delivers, and 2.0 carats is a generous stage. Curious how it works? Read how alexandrite changes color.
The halo: brilliance around the mood
A full circle of accent stones surrounds the oval, borrowing a page from classic halo engagement rings: the halo bounces white light around the center, making the stone read even larger and its color richer by contrast. Choose moissanite accents (D color, VVS1 clarity) for maximum fire, or natural diamonds (G/H color, I1 eye-clean, conflict-free) — and if you want the full backstory on lab versus mined diamonds before deciding, see are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds.
Naturally white metals
The Ava comes in solid 10K, 14K, or 18K white gold, or platinum. 10K is the hardest and most affordable; 14K is the most popular balance of durability and gold content; 18K carries the richest gold feel; platinum is naturally white, densest, and hypoallergenic. Every option is solid precious metal on a delicately detailed band averaging 1.8 mm.
Planning the stack
The Ava is sold as a single ring — the wedding band is sold separately — which leaves the pairing open. A slim curved or straight band nests cleanly beneath the halo, and our alexandrite wedding bands continue the color-change story on the stack. Alexandrite is June’s birthstone and the 55th-anniversary gem, so the Ava also earns its place as a milestone piece far beyond the proposal.

Sizing & care
Select your size from the drop-down menu after checking our ring size guide — jewelers’ sizing tools commonly disagree by up to half a size, and a made-to-order ring deserves an exact fit.
With alexandrite at 8.5 on the Mohs scale, the Ava is fully up to everyday wear. Clean it with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush; dry with a soft cloth; store it away from harder stones. It arrives in a free luxury ring box with free USA shipping.
Frequently asked questions
Is the alexandrite in the Ava real?
Yes — it is a lab-grown alexandrite, which is real alexandrite. It matches the mined gem in chemistry, 8.5 Mohs hardness, and the color-change effect; growing it in a lab is what makes a clean 2-carat stone with a strong shift possible.
How large does a 2-carat oval alexandrite look?
The stone measures 7.0 x 9.0 mm — roughly the footprint of a 2-carat oval diamond — and the surrounding halo makes it appear larger still. It reads as a statement stone without being top-heavy on the hand.
What colors does the stone shift between?
Bluish green and teal under daylight and cool white light; purplish red under incandescent bulbs and candlelight; violet and magenta in mixed lighting. The shift repeats every time the lighting changes.
What surrounds the center stone?
A halo of accent stones in your choice of moissanite (D color, VVS1 clarity) or natural diamonds (G/H color, I1 eye-clean clarity, conflict-free). The halo amplifies sparkle and visually enlarges the center.
Why choose an oval over a hexagon or kite cut?
The oval is the classic of the family: no corners, a soft outline that elongates the finger, and a timeless look that will not date. The geometric cuts trade some of that softness for edge — the oval keeps tradition while the stone itself stays extraordinary.
Should I pick white gold or platinum?
White gold gives you three karat choices and a lighter price; platinum is naturally white throughout, denser on the hand, and hypoallergenic. For sensitive skin or maximum heft, choose platinum.
What is the difference between the karats?
10K white gold is the hardest and most affordable, 14K is the most popular balance of durability and gold content, and 18K holds the most gold for the most luxurious feel. All are solid gold through and through.
Does the Ava come with a wedding band?
No — the wedding band is sold separately, which lets you choose the band that fits your style and stack. Slim straight or curved bands sit neatly beneath the halo.
Is this ring suitable for daily wear?
Yes. Alexandrite’s 8.5 Mohs hardness beats nearly every colored gemstone, the halo protects the center’s edges, and solid white gold and platinum are proven everyday metals. Take it off for abrasive work to keep it pristine.
Are the diamond accents natural?
Yes — the diamond accent option uses natural, conflict-free diamonds in G/H color and I1 eye-clean clarity. The moissanite option uses lab-grown moissanite in D color and VVS1 clarity.
Is engraving included?
Yes — complimentary engraving of up to 16 characters comes with every ring.
How long does production take?
The Ava is made to order; please allow 3–5 weeks for handcrafting. Requested modifications may extend the timeline and adjust the price.
How do I confirm my ring size?
Use our ring size guide at aquamarise.com/pages/find-your-size before ordering — sizing tools vary between jewelers by up to half a size, and measuring first avoids a remake.
Can I request a different center stone or an appraisal?
Yes. Contact us for a custom quote on other gemstones, and add the optional appraisal from the drop-down menu — the appraisal fee is non-refundable once the work has been performed.
✨ Production time

- Made-to-order solid gold and platinum: 3–6 weeks, depending on the design. Pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end.

- USPS Ground Advantage — free on every order
- FedEx Home Delivery® — $10
- FedEx 2Day® — $22

Every order ships fully insured and requires a signature. Full details on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Engraving is cut into the inside of the band, so it stays between the two of you.
AVAILABILITY
Engraving is offered on most — though not all — designs. If it is available for this ring, an engraving field appears with the options above.

Standard engraving is complimentary and set in Arial, chosen because it stays legible at very small sizes. These symbols are included at no extra cost:

Frequently Asked Questions
Every ring on this page is made in solid gold or platinum — never plated, never gold-filled. Solid gold comes in 10K, 14K and 18K across yellow, white and rose; our platinum is 95% pure, naturally hypoallergenic, and white the whole way through. Available metals vary by design and are listed in the selector above. Our Precious Metal Guide explains how each one wears.
Side by side and brand new, the two look almost identical. The difference shows up over years of wear.
White gold is a gold alloy finished with rhodium for brightness. It sits lighter on the hand and costs less, and the rhodium finish is refreshed every few years to keep it crisp.
Platinum is white all the way through, so there is no finish to renew. It is around 40% denser — noticeably weightier — and over time develops a soft matte patina that many people prefer. It can be polished back to a high shine whenever you like.
Our Platinum vs Gold guide compares durability, cost and upkeep in full.
Solid gold is gold throughout — alloyed for strength, but the same metal at the surface as at the core. Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it, which thins with wear and needs replating to stay bright. Rings on this page are solid gold or platinum only. Our Precious Metal Guide sets out where each makes sense.
Neither tarnishes. Gold and platinum are two of the most stable metals used in fine jewelry, and both hold their color indefinitely. Platinum does develop a satin patina as it is worn — that is surface texture rather than damage, and it polishes out at any time. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush is all either metal asks for; see our Jewelry Care Guide.
Nothing on this page is pulled from a shelf. Each solid gold and platinum ring is cast, set and finished for your order, which takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the design — pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end. Shipping is added once your ring is finished, and paying for faster shipping speeds up transit only — it does not shorten production. Full timings are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Use the Size Chart linked beside the Add to Bag button, or our full Ring Size Chart. Because these rings are made to order, we cut your size from the start rather than resizing a stock band — so measure carefully. Your first resizing is free if it is still not right. Most designs can be adjusted, though eternity bands and rings with stones set the whole way around usually cannot.
On most designs, yes — if engraving is available for this ring, a text field appears with the options above. Standard engraving is complimentary: up to 16 characters on women’s rings and 25 on men’s, set in Arial, with a small selection of symbols included. Custom fonts and symbols are $25 and are arranged before you order. See the Engraving page for what is possible. Engraved rings are final sale.
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery on unworn rings in original condition. Because solid gold and platinum rings are made to order, they are subject to a restocking fee, and engraved pieces are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns & Refunds page. Every ring is also covered by our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
