Some stones sparkle; an opal glows. This Australian opal engagement ring carries a 6×8 mm oval-cut natural Australian opal that flashes soft blues, greens, and pastel fire as your hand moves — no two stones ever alike — on a sculpted leaf-and-vine band of solid 10K, 14K, or 18K white gold, or platinum, lit by softly glowing opalescent sapphire accents.
A living flame in a leaf’s embrace
Australian opal is famous for play-of-color: microscopic silica spheres inside the stone split light into shifting patches of blue, green, and pastel fire that drift as the ring turns. It means the stone on your hand is never quite the same twice — morning light draws out the cool blues, evening light warms the greens — and it means your opal’s pattern belongs to it alone. Our opal engagement ring guide explains what makes these stones so distinct, and you can see the breadth of the family across our opal engagement rings.
The leaf-and-vine band
Sculpted leaf and vine details climb the band toward the center stone, giving the ring the feel of something grown rather than built. It is a refined botanical touch — fantasy-adjacent without costume, romantic without excess — and it makes the opal read like dew caught in foliage. If that language speaks to you, our leaf engagement rings and wider nature-inspired engagement rings carry the theme further.
Accents with an ethereal glow
Flanking the opal are simulated opalescent sapphire accent stones, chosen for the way their soft, milky luminescence extends the center stone’s glow down the shoulders of the ring. Prefer crisp white sparkle instead? The accents can be replaced with colorless moissanite at no additional cost — simply request it when ordering.
Solid white gold or platinum
Every ring is solid precious metal throughout, never plated, and the white color is permanent. Select from the drop-down menu:
- 10K white gold — the most durable and most affordable option.
- 14K white gold — the classic balance of durability and gold purity, and our default choice.
- 18K white gold — the highest gold content for a richer, more luxurious feel.
- Platinum — naturally white, denser than gold, and hypoallergenic.
Yellow and rose gold are available on request. Our 10K vs 14K vs 18K gold karat comparison guide breaks down the differences in detail.
For the non-traditional romantic
This design suits anyone stepping outside the classic diamond script: a non-traditional engagement ring, an anniversary or vow-renewal ring, or an heirloom for an October birthday — opal is October’s birthstone, as our October birthstone guide explores. If you are weighing alternatives to a classic diamond, our guide to non-traditional engagement rings is a helpful place to start, and the wider world of gemstone engagement rings is open for wandering.

Sizing & care
Opal is a soft gemstone — around 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale — so it thrives on mindful wear. Remove the ring before heavy-impact activities and keep it away from harsh household chemicals; clean it gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth rather than ultrasonic or steam cleaners. Because each opal is natural, color patterns vary slightly from ring to ring — that individuality is the point.
The ring fits true to size, but sizing tools can vary between jewelers by up to half a size, so please review our ring sizing guide before ordering. A free luxury ring box and free USA shipping are included.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the opal in this ring natural?
Yes. The center stone is a natural Australian opal, oval cut to 6×8 mm, with genuine play-of-color that shifts as the ring moves through light.
What is play-of-color?
It is the opal’s signature optical effect: microscopic silica spheres inside the stone split light into moving flashes of blue, green, and pastel fire. Every natural opal shows its own unique pattern.
Will my opal look exactly like the photos?
Very close, but not identical — natural opals vary slightly in color pattern from stone to stone. Your ring will be one of a kind in the most literal sense.
What are the accent stones?
Simulated opalescent sapphires, selected for their soft milky glow that complements the opal center. They can be swapped for colorless moissanite at no additional cost upon request.
Which metals can I choose?
Solid 10K, 14K, or 18K white gold, or solid platinum — each selectable from the drop-down menu. Yellow and rose gold are available on request.
Which karat should I pick?
10K is the most durable and affordable, 14K is the classic balance of purity and strength and our most popular choice, and 18K carries the highest gold content for the richest look.
Why might I choose platinum?
Platinum is naturally white, denser than gold, and hypoallergenic — a premium option whose color is permanent by nature. It is ideal for sensitive skin.
Is this ring solid gold or plated?
Solid all the way through — never plated or gold-filled. The white color is permanent and will not wear off or leave marks on your skin.
Is opal durable enough for everyday wear?
Opal is a softer gemstone, around 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale, so it is best suited to mindful everyday wear. Remove the ring before heavy-impact activities and chemical exposure and it will glow for decades.
How do I clean an opal ring?
Wipe it gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam, and harsh chemicals, which are not safe for opal.
Is opal a birthstone?
Yes — opal is the October birthstone, which makes this ring especially meaningful for October birthdays and fall proposals.
Is this a good non-traditional engagement ring?
Very much so. The glowing opal, botanical band, and ethereal accents make it a distinctive alternative to a classic diamond solitaire while still reading unmistakably bridal.
Does the ring fit true to size?
Yes, the ring fits true to size. Because sizing tools vary slightly between jewelers, we recommend checking our ring sizing guide before ordering.
✨ Production time

Engraving is offered on most — though not all — designs. If it is available for this ring, an engraving field appears with the options above.

Frequently Asked Questions
Every ring on this page is made in solid gold or platinum — never plated, never gold-filled. Solid gold comes in 10K, 14K and 18K across yellow, white and rose; our platinum is 95% pure, naturally hypoallergenic, and white the whole way through. Available metals vary by design and are listed in the selector above. Our Precious Metal Guide explains how each one wears.
Side by side and brand new, the two look almost identical. The difference shows up over years of wear.
White gold is a gold alloy finished with rhodium for brightness. It sits lighter on the hand and costs less, and the rhodium finish is refreshed every few years to keep it crisp.
Platinum is white all the way through, so there is no finish to renew. It is around 40% denser — noticeably weightier — and over time develops a soft matte patina that many people prefer. It can be polished back to a high shine whenever you like.
Our Platinum vs Gold guide compares durability, cost and upkeep in full.
Solid gold is gold throughout — alloyed for strength, but the same metal at the surface as at the core. Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it, which thins with wear and needs replating to stay bright. Rings on this page are solid gold or platinum only. Our Precious Metal Guide sets out where each makes sense.
Neither tarnishes. Gold and platinum are two of the most stable metals used in fine jewelry, and both hold their color indefinitely. Platinum does develop a satin patina as it is worn — that is surface texture rather than damage, and it polishes out at any time. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush is all either metal asks for; see our Jewelry Care Guide.
Nothing on this page is pulled from a shelf. Each solid gold and platinum ring is cast, set and finished for your order, which takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the design — pavé settings, custom sizing and engraving sit at the longer end. Shipping is added once your ring is finished, and paying for faster shipping speeds up transit only — it does not shorten production. Full timings are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Use the Size Chart linked beside the Add to Bag button, or our full Ring Size Chart. Because these rings are made to order, we cut your size from the start rather than resizing a stock band — so measure carefully. Your first resizing is free if it is still not right. Most designs can be adjusted, though eternity bands and rings with stones set the whole way around usually cannot.
On most designs, yes — if engraving is available for this ring, a text field appears with the options above. Standard engraving is complimentary: up to 16 characters on women’s rings and 25 on men’s, set in Arial, with a small selection of symbols included. Custom fonts and symbols are $25 and are arranged before you order. See the Engraving page for what is possible. Engraved rings are final sale.
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery on unworn rings in original condition. Because solid gold and platinum rings are made to order, they are subject to a restocking fee, and engraved pieces are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns & Refunds page. Every ring is also covered by our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
