At the heart of the Victoria sits an oval natural black onyx, about 7×5 mm and 0.75 carats, in a rich, opaque jet black long associated with strength, grounding and protection. Onyx is a natural form of chalcedony (a variety of quartz) at Mohs 6.5–7 — a distinct gemstone, not a diamond — and its sleek black polish gives the ring its bold, modern character.
