The first stone is a natural emerald-cut London blue topaz, about 4×7 mm, in the rich, moody deep-blue shade the gem is prized for. Topaz is a naturally hard gem at Mohs 8; it does have a natural cleavage plane, so it rewards a little care against hard knocks.
The alexandrite
The second stone is a pear-cut alexandrite, about 5×7 mm, famous for its color change — shifting between greenish-blue in daylight and a warmer purplish-red under incandescent light. This is a lab-grown (lab-created) alexandrite, the same color-change chrysoberyl as the natural gem, at Mohs 8.5.
