Lab-grown ruby
is the standard across our collection. Lab-grown ruby is genuine corundum — chemically identical to natural ruby, with the same Mohs 9 hardness, the same chromium coloring, and the same optical properties. The only difference is that lab-grown ruby was produced under controlled laboratory conditions instead of mined from the earth. The price difference reflects production process, not visible quality. Every sterling silver, gold vermeil, black ruthenium, and most solid 14K gold pieces in this collection feature lab-grown ruby.
Natural ruby
is mined corundum with documented geological origin — primarily from Mozambique, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, and Madagascar. Natural ruby is available in select solid 14K gold and platinum pieces within this collection, and is available made-to-order on any piece through custom commission. Ruby Origins - Burmese, Mozambique, Thai, and Madagascar
Ruby's geographic origin significantly affects color, value, and aesthetic character.
Burmese ruby (from Myanmar) is the most historically prized ruby origin, producing the legendary pigeon blood ruby— pure red with slight blue undertones reading as intensely luminous. True Burmese ruby commands the highest pricing across all ruby origins, and "Burmese color" now describes equivalent saturation from other premium sources.
Mozambique ruby has emerged as the most significant commercial source over the past two decades, producing fine-quality ruby with saturation rivaling Burmese material at more accessible pricing. Mozambique ruby has become the dominant origin for premium fine jewelry across major global markets.

Ruby Hardness and Daily Wear
Ruby ranks 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it the second-hardest colored gemstone in fine jewelry behind only sapphire (which is the same mineral, corundum, in non-red varieties). Only diamond (Mohs 10) and moissanite (Mohs 9.25) are harder.
